The Villa of Bilbao was founded more than 700 years ago, grew on both sides of the River because it was part of the communication with the outside. On one side was the left bank or “Bilbao la Vieja”, which was a mining area where iron was worked in the ironworks. And on the other side was the right bank, called Old-Town, dedicated to merchant and port traffic.
The heart of this Old-Town was surrounded by walls and consisted of three parallel streets, but later the walls were demolished and four other streets more perpendicular to the river. For this reason, it is also known as the Seven Streets. During the year 1979, this area is pedestrian, becoming a commercial area with hundreds of commercial establishments, bars and restaurants. Nowadays it has become the most tourist area of the city.
This tour consists of a guided visit of 2 hours by the Old-Town, seeing its seven streets: SOMERA, ARTECALLE, TENDERIA, BELLOSTICALLE, CARNICERIA VIEJA, BARRENCALLE and BARRENCALLE BARRENA. And buildings such as the theater of our heart Arriaga Theater, Cathedral of Santiago, Churches of San Antón, San Nicolás and Santos Juanes and Rivera Market. And its five bridges too: Ayuntamiento, Arenal, La Merced, De la Rivera and San Antón.
